RANSOMWARE: The most terrifying thing that can happen to your business is a ransomware attack. This is when hackers take control of your network and encrypt all your data, making it unusable. And they will not undo the damage unless you pay a ransom fee.
The reason they can do so much damage is they secretly break into your system a long time before the attack is launched. The one upside of this is you can keep an eye out for symptoms that will show if your network has been breached.
Here are three ways you can detect if hackers have already broken in.
- Regularly check the software you have installed. If you notice new software you didn’t download, it could be a sign that you have an intruder.
- Look for security software that’s been disabled. Or other settings that have been changed recently, but not by you.
- Make sure your list of system administrators doesn’t grow. Check it often to look for new or unusual admins.
There are many more things you should check. Preventing ransomware is a specialized area, and we recommend you work closely with your IT partner to put in place regular checks. If you’re looking for a partner, we’re now taking on new clients. Give us a call.
